Dear Ministry Friends,
On Monday, February 25, 2008, the Capital newspaper printed an article accusing pregnancy centers of providing false medical information to clients. The Bowie Crofton & Severna Park Pregnancy Clinics were specifically mentioned. The accusations in this article are slanderous. Please read my response to the Capital Gazette.
It is hard at times to contain our righteous anger when we are lied about and maligned, but then we reflect on the words of Christ and know He told us to expect persecution if we follow Him. However, that does not mean we allow falsehood to stand without rebuke. I have included my response to the newspaper and would ask that each of you pray about your own response.
While we can't 'take back' what they wrote, we and each of you, our ministry supporters, can respond immediately to these false allegations. We must expect the Capital article to be reprinted in the Bowie, Crofton and other newspapers this week and should respond accordingly. Similar articles have already appeared in Baltimore and Frederick newspapers. In addition, the battle is heating up in the Senate and House based on false accusations all stemming from the report done by the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). Let's pray and prepare for victory in defeating Senate Bill 690 and House Bill 1146 which would force us to state in the first contact with any client that, "We are not required to provide factually accurate information."
Here's what you can do:
Today the battle ground is not the abortion issue, it's pregnancy centers. Write a letter focusing on the good pregnancy centers do. Send it immediately and follow up to see that it is printed. Here is how to contact the local newspapers and their "letter's policies":
The Capital Gazette: Address letters to "Letters to the Editor, The Capital, PO Box 911, Annapolis , MD 21404." E-mail: capletts@capitalgazette.com. Fax: 410-268-4643 . Please limit your response to 300 words. Include an address and daytime phone number, so that letters can be verified.
The Bowie Blade or The Crofton Crier: Follow the same guidelines and send to letters@bladenews.com.
The Maryland Gazette: Send to gazletters@mdgazette.com.
Prepare letters to your Senators and Delegates
Senate Bill 690 and House Bill 1146 threaten to make pregnancy clinics tell their clients that they provide false information. We need to let our Senators and Delegates know these bills propagate lies and hurt women. Go to www.mdelect.net to find your Senator and Delegates. For templates on how to format your letters, see Senate Template and House Template.
You can also give written testimony to the Senate and House committees. For templates for such written testimony, see Senate Testimony Template and House Testimony Template.
Again, please focus on the good pregnancy centers do.
Although the claims against pregnancy centers are unsubstantiated, they require our immediate and decisive response. These efforts significantly impact our time and tap into the financial resources intended to help our clients. We appreciate your prayers and financial gifts. We know God goes before us in this battle and will provide everything we need to stand victorious.
Thank you for standing with us in support of Life. Together, we can make our voices heard.
